My heartiest
congratulations to the Editor and to your editorial team
on the publication of the special issue on IS 456 : 2000
in February 2001. Apparently, a lot of background work has
been done to compile impressive, interesting and very useful
technical contents through The Indian Concrete Journal.
Enough deliberations
and workshops have been held on IS 456 : 2000 and yet your
compilation, covering various sections through experts in
the field, would rate the best. It is a good library reference.
The concept of guest editorial has a fresh air to it which
looks for various other parameters in modern technology updates.

The Indian
Concrete Journal is
the most excellently edited, creative technical journal available
in the country. I congratulate you on your endeavour to bring
the best of the civil engineering fraternity on one platform
and showcase their innovative work, thoughts and present a
forum for development of new technical ideologies. Each issue
of the magazine contains articles which speak of the technical
advances made in India and around the world. I congratulate
you specially on the technical finesse of the last two special
issues, namely, ‘Repair and Rehabilitation’, published in
January 2001 and ‘IS 456 : 2000’, published in February 2001.
The technical summarisation in totality of the new version
of IS 456 through a few but best articles made the issue really
worthwhile and outstanding . The ‘Repair and Rehabilitation’
special issue is also an excellent representation of works
carried out worldwide.
I would also like
to take this opportunity to suggest that in view of the natural
disaster that has struck the country you should bring out
a special issue on "Earthquake Engineering " which
would provide an overview on designing the sub-structure and
superstructure, post rehabilitation or retrofitting of earthquake-affected
structures and in particular, stress the need for application
of certain basic regulatory rules for all structures, which
are generally overlooked aesthetic and economic reasons. I
feel that there is a need to address these issues specially
after inspecting a few structures in Ahmedabad-Rajkot areas.
I hope you shall give a thought to my suggestions.

I would like
to convey my appreciation of the April 2001 issue of The
Indian Concrete Journal for its excellence as well as
its informative contents including "News & Events"
and the article titled "Design and construction of
a five-star hotel" – to name a few. Further, the detailed
and informative article on PCA bridge awards for excellence
in design and construction is particularly of great interest
to me as I founded the "Indian Institution of Bridge
Engineers" and take pride in works like these.
I convey my
appreciation to your editorial team and look forward to
further excellent issues of your journal.

I take this
opportunity to appreciate the special issue on IS 456 :
2000, which contained many useful articles. Even in the
March 2001 issue, the article by the IIT Kanpur team on
Gujarat earthquake was excellent. Your new format of printing
the biodata of authors with their photographs at the end
of the article (similar to ACI Journal) is also good.
Keep up the
good work.

Please accept
my sincere appreciation for bringing out the special issue
on "Information technology for construction industry"
published in December 2000.
The theme is
very topical and caters to the need of the hour. All the
articles open out new, better and efficient vistas for furthering
improvements in the archaic construction industry.
"Use of
information technology in construction" by Mr A. Ramakrishna
is easily a true blueprint for future usage.
Your special
issue reflects the current status and present trends. It
provides a good storehouse to seed and disseminate new ideas
for practising engineers.
I hope you
shall arrange to bring further issues, periodically, in
the following areas: few useful website addresses, review
of various institutes in the construction industry and review
of training centres for practising engineers.
