Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is India's leading multi-dimensional industrial conglomerate. It was founded in 1938 by two Danish engineers, Henning Holck-Larsen and Soren Kristian Toubro, as a partnership firm. It became a private limited company in 1946 and a public limited company in 1950. Besides having a strong presence in different sectors like cement, construction, heavy engineering, electrical and electronics, etc, it has a good track record in the earthmoving and construction equipment sector. Thousands of machines supplied by L&T are in operation in mines, quarries, irrigation, power, highways and land development projects, nation-wide. The company has a tie-up with two renowned foreign companies, namely, Komatsu, Japan and Case Corporation (CNH Global N.V.,USA). It has a strong customer orientation with service centres established at Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Chennai and Durgapur to over-haul and rebuild customers' equipment.

Manufactured at Bangalore Works, L&T Komatsu PC200-6 is a hydraulic excavator which is sturdy, rugged and reliable.  Belonging to the avance series, it has a flywheel horsepower of 96 kW 128 hp with 2,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and an operating weight of 19,560 kg.These machines have the highest arm and bucket digging forces in their class allowing them to dig through hard rock with ease.

It is provided with 'HydrauMind' technology which is essentially hydraulic. When the ground condition changes in digging, you don't have to think about changing your lever strokes, because 'HydrauMind' automatically sends just the right amount of oil to the actuators at just the right pressure to accomodate the change. When the boom arm and bucket are moved at the same time, the whole equipment works together with the optimum combination of speed and power – as if it were a human hand.

The hydraulic system is equipped with engine speed sensor so that maximum horsepower is used at all times, contributing to higher production and short cycle times. With the 'HydrauMind' system, it becomes easy to work through soft rock or pull up boulders, easy for fine-control lifting, digging along ditch walls and easier loading of full buckets. Shaking of chassis is reduced during simultaneous operations.

Some of the other advantages are : easy serviceability, engine confirmation to emission control standards; sleek and impressive look and operator comfort. It can be attached with a hydraulic breaker.

L&T 180CK is provided with Variodyn hydraulic system which provides optimum conversion of engine power into hydraulic power.  The hydraulic circuit provides series parallel flow to the attachment and enables smooth simultaneous operations.

It is also provided with SAE hydraulic joints for higher reliability. It has a maximum operating pressure of 320 bar in normal mode and 400 bar in heavy lift mode. L&T 180CK comes with two work modes namely, soft and hard, which can be selected from the operator cabin to suit the application. It finds application in typical soft strata as well as hard strata like granite, marble, mines. The hydraulic pump has a maximum flow of 480 l/min at 2000 rpm.

The motors have two radial and axial pistons for swing and travel. A 10-m fibre glass eco-friendly filter is built into the return line of hydraulic circuit for protection against oil contamination, which in turn ensures long life of hydraulic components.

At low lube oil pressure and high water temperature, automatic engine shut off takes place. Optional attachments include rock breaker and rehandling clamshell.

L&T 90CK-3 is a hydraulic excavator with a four-stroke, turbocharged, water cooled engine of ALU 411 model.  It has six cylinders and a gross power of 120 hp at 1900 rpm with a maximum torque of 458 Nm at 1800 rpm.

Its 'Linde Synchron control' hydraulic system ensures optimum use of the engine power for fast and high precision operations. The system is also provided with two mode power selection (high mode/ eonomy mode) for fuel economy. The operating pressure in normal mode is 320 bar whereas in heavy lift mode it is 370 bar. The heavy lift mode enhance the lifting and digging capabilities in tougher digging conditions. The maximum flow of the main pump is 247 l/min whereas that of the auxiliary pump is 59 l/min.

Its swing mechanism consists of a high-torque, low speed hydraulic motor which directly engages with the ring gear. It has single row cross roller bearing with induction hardened external ring gear with automatic hydrostatic swing braking and a swing speed of 12 rpm.

Highlights

The closed centre-load sensing regulation unit with built-in pressure compensator in this system controls the pump output based on demand. It also enables the use of a single pump for all functions. "Flow on demand" is a unique feature in this system which economises on fuel consumption. Its main pump has a maximum flow of 220 l/min at 2200 rpm and the auxilliary pump has a flow of 50 l/min at 2200 rpm.

Its swing mechanism has a high torque, low speed hydraulic motor which directly engages with the ring gear. The swing speed is 12 rpm.

Boom, stick and bucket which are available in different sizes according to job requirements are the attachments to this model. Optional attachments include a short boom for inside tunnel operation, hydraulic rock breaker, hydraulic augur and loader.

L&T 300CK-II is a sturdy, rugged and reliable hydraulic excavator incorporating advanced features based on extensive field experience. Its high indigenous content including key hydraulic components ensures increased availability and low operating cost.

The Variodyn hydraulic system provides optimum conversion of engine power into hydraulic power at the bucket. The heavy lift mode provides increased lifting capabilities and digging force at the flick of a switch. It has a power rating of 320 hp-328 kW at 1900 rpm.

Some of the special features of the hydraulic system are floating boom, automatic long ground stroke, swing energy recovery. The front end of the floating boom automatically adapts to the contours of the terrain, simplifying digging and preventing the bucket from jolting against the ground. Energy spent while accelerating and decelerating the upper structure is recovered by the use of swing energy recovery block. While digging, the operator can maintain the bucket bottom face horizontal. Auto-return of bucket to its original digging position is also provided.

It is re-engineered for low operating cost, productivity and operator comfort. It is an upgraded version, manufactured by L&T CASE Equipment Limited.

The engine has a gross power of 54 kW (72 hp) at 2200 rpm as per BS Au 141a. It has a single stage hydro-kinetic type torque converter.

It is provided with rock breaker, lifting arrangement, extending type dipper, bottom dump bucket, ripper tooth, backfill blade, heavy duty tyres, dozer blade and limestone scraper. The bottom dump bucket is multi-purpose and is ideal for digging, loading, dozing, backfilling, grading and grab operations.

L&T has launched a new 11-t soil compactor, L&T-CASE 1107D. The major feature in this new model which supercedes the earlier one, is the substantially higher impact forces while retaining a high level of static linear load. The machine can operate in non-cohesive soils like sand, gravel and crushed stones as well as in cohesive soils with high water content.

The machine has improved hydraulics incorporating latest components from Sauer Danfoss, Rexroth and Poclain hydraulics. These offer high torque ratings and impact forces which would enable the machine to complete the compacting work in reduced number of passes as also to comfortably negotiate steep gradients. Travel is achieved through an axle motor providing the traction torque at the rear tyre and radial piston motor providing the traction torque to the drum. The combined torque helps in negotiating difficult soils

like loose granular soils and steep gradients. The vibration pump provides the torque to the eccentric shaft through the vibration motor which is directly coupled to the shaft. The frequency selection can be done with a simple switch provided on the control panel. The compactor can also be offered without the drum drive as model L&T-CASE 1107 and with pad foot option designated as model L&T-CASE 1107 PD. It can be effectively used for roads, airports, irrigation works, land development, bridges and other jos.

Some of its features include: hydrostatic travel and vibratory drive on both drums, selection of amplitude/frequency with a switch in the operator console itself for compaction of various strata and machine drum roller enabling smooth finish to the compacted asphalt, lower fuel consumption. Its compact design with small turning radius offers manoeuvrability, provides gradeability of 20o, gives tracking accuracy. 

It has an engine power of 74 hp at 2500 rpm as per DIN 6271 IFN. There is an automatic drive and brake system with single level operation and automatic vibrator cut-off system to prevent uncontrolled blows while reversing.
