andrEw minson DPhil (Oxon) FIStructE FICE. Director of Concrete and Sustainable Construction,
Global Cement and Concrete Association. Andrew Minson started his role as Concrete and Sustainable
Construction Director for the GCCA at the beginning of 2019. He leads GCCA’s work promoting the
sustainability value of concrete. This includes improving understanding of concrete’s lifecycle and its role in
delivering a low carbon, resilient and sustainable built environment. He also leads work with industry partners
developing new global sustainability guidelines for concrete. Over his career Andrew has built a detailed
knowledge of the construction industry, sustainability and how the concrete sector can play a positive role
now and in the future. Whilst responsible for The Concrete Centre he led the Concrete Industry Sustainable
Construction Strategy for the UK from 2009 to 2018 – a strategy that encompasses the whole life of the
material from sourcing constituents to beyond project demolition. He is co-author of the Wiley published
“Sustainable Concrete Solutions”. Andrew gained a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of
Queensland before winning a Rhodes Scholarship to University of Oxford. He worked for global engineering
consultant Arup for ten years before joining The Concrete Centre. He is a Fellow of both the Institution of
Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers.
