TECHNICAL PAPER COLLECTOR’S EDITION
Soil-cement cubes were cured under wet burlap
for 21 days and then air dried inside the laboratory
for 30 days. The cubes were soaked in water for 48
hours before testing. The compressive strength
tests were carried out in a strain controlled
testing machine at a strain rate of 1.25 mm/min.
The strength obtained in this manner has been
designated as wet compressive strength.
Ordinary portland cement has been used for the
preparation of soil-cement cubes. The strength
of 1:3 (cement:sand) mortar cubes tested as per
Indian code IS:4031-1968, is as follows:
(i) 3 days strength : 15.13N/mm 2
(ii) 7 days strength: 22.30N/mm 2
